Sjoerd Harder studied and obtained his PhD degrees at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. After several post-doc stays (Erlangen – Prof. Schleyer, Berkeley – Prof. Streitwieser, Konstanz – Prof. Brintzinger) he finalized his habilitation in 1998 at the University of Konstanz. He became associate professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen (2004) and Chair in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Groningen in his home country (2010). In 2012 he accepted the Chair in Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. His never-ending interest in main group chemistry was recognized by the Schlenk Lecture Award (2017) and the RSC Main Group Chemistry Award (2019).
